THE VOLUNTEER PROJECT IN SOUTH AMERICA - ARGENTINA

The aim of the volunteer project in Argentina, in Cordoba, is to support the most disadvantaged members of the population, especially young people, improving their living conditions through social and sports projects and advocacy for their rights.

Our partner works in the city of Cordoba, Argentina’s second largest city, very lively, attracting students from all over Argentina.

Especially in the outlying areas, social inequalities are significant. The project aims to support the beneficiaries, improving their everyday lives.

As a volunteer, you will be able to take part in activities in the following areas:

Radio - Journalism

The project takes place in the Unquillo neighbourhood of Córdoba. Volunteers will work alongside professional journalists and radio experts. They will have the opportunity to conduct interviews on current topics and build their own project. They will be able to produce podcasts and radio programmes, giving a voice to the local community. Volunteers interested in a career in journalism will be able to build their own portfolio.

HUMAN RIGHTS

Volunteers will work alongside local staff and organisations committed to raising awareness of human rights. Every day, the community faces situations of abuse and gender inequality. Volunteers can help raise awareness through communication campaigns and workshops dedicated to human rights. Volunteers may work both in the office, organising activities, and in the field:

Take part in fieldwork, offering support to victims of abuse
Conduct interviews and research activities.
Contribute to the design of awareness campaigns.
Organise empowerment workshops and workshops on human rights.
Carry out essential administrative tasks.

TEACHING

Volunteers can choose to work in a nursery school, or in centres for children with disabilities. At the nursery, the role involves supporting the youngest children in learning to read, write and count, as well as recreational and play activities. In secondary schools, volunteers may organise Italian or English lessons depending on need.

SPORT

As a volunteer, you will give children and young people the opportunity to take part in sports activities that they would otherwise have very limited access to. Many of the young people you will coach come from low-income families who cannot afford professional training courses. By volunteering, you will not only teach sporting skills, but also offer important life lessons and the opportunity to nurture their passion for sport.
The activity takes place in local sports clubs and in primary and secondary schools, in collaboration with motivated local coaches ready to welcome volunteers into their teams.

LOCATION

The project takes place in the city of Cordoba, Argentina’s second largest city. Argentina, located in South America, is a land of extraordinary geographical variety, ranging from the snow-capped Andes in the north to the vast plains of the Pampas, to the glaciers of Patagonia in the south. It is a country rich in culture and passion, known for tango, football and its lively literary scene. Marked by a complex history of European immigration and unstable economic cycles, Argentina has managed to build a strong national cultural identity and a great spirit of resilience. Today it is home to a diverse population blending indigenous, Latin American and European origins, giving rise to a society that is extremely proud of its own culture.

ARRIVAL AND TRAINING

The arrival airport is the Ingeniero Ambrosio L. V. Taravella International Airport, located in Cordoba. Volunteers must agree on their arrival before booking their flight, and it is advisable to arrive at the weekend. The project offers the opportunity to take Spanish lessons, the official language, both online before departure and once you have arrived on site.

BOARD AND LODGING

Volunteers on the project stay with a host family, allowing them to immerse themselves more fully in the local culture.

REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE

Be at least 18 years old and have a good knowledge of English.

MINIMUM LENGTH OF STAY

The minimum length of stay is 2 weeks. Volunteers can leave at any time during the year and are free to decide whether to stay on the project for a longer period. The advice of the YearOut staff is to stay on the project for a period of 4 weeks, to make the volunteers’ intervention useful both for the community and for themselves.

DONATION

The donation varies based on the number of weeks of stay and the project chosen.

Your donation includes: board, lodging, transport costs (airport pick-up/drop-off and local transport for project-related activities), 24-hour staff assistance, and funding for the materials needed for activities.

FREE TIME

Argentina is a land of natural wonders and vibrant culture. Cordoba, a historic city founded in 1500, is one of the most fascinating centres, blending colonial architecture, contemporary art and a lively student atmosphere. It also opens the door to natural wonders: from Alta Gracia, home to Che Guevara’s house, to Cerro Uritorco, a destination for trekking and legends, all the way to the river beaches of Mina Clavero. All these destinations are easily reachable by bus.
