THE ENVIRONMENTAL VOLUNTEERING PROJECT IN NAMIBIA
By volunteering in Namibia as a volunteer for the Wildlife Sanctuary, a 3,200 hectare reserve that provides a safe haven for various at-risk and distressed specimens, concentrating all efforts on long-term rehabilitation, you can take part in programmes in the following areas:
LOCATION
The project takes place in the N/a’an ku sê area, near Namibia’s capital Windhoek, where several programmes are active. Namibia, a country in South West Africa, is distinguished by the Namib Desert, which lies along the Atlantic coast. The country is home to a wealth of wildlife, including significant numbers of cheetahs. It is a unique country, characterised by the influence of various cultures during the German colonisation and reborn from the ashes of Apartheid in the 1990s with a new sense of unity in diversity; Namibian society is made up of at least 11 major ethnic groups, who take pride in their traditions and strive to work together to build a peaceful coexistence.
ARRIVAL AND TRAINING
You will arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport, the main international airport in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital. You must book a flight that lands in the morning, before 2 pm. You will find a driver at the airport who will take you to the project.

FREE TIME
Namibia is the perfect place for those who do not yet know Africa.
The peoples who inhabit it are repositories of ancient and profound wisdom, and here you will find the world’s oldest desert, sand dunes sloping down to the sea, mountains with a German name, endless plains of golden grass, big cats, elephants, rhinos and wild animals in abundance.
Volunteers will also have the opportunity to visit the famous red sand dunes at Sossusvlei.
VOLUNTEER QUOTES
“You will wake up at dawn, ready for the meeting with the volunteer coordinators who will assign daily activities: you will be preparing food for the animals, cleaning cages, taking the baboons for their daily walk… You will also move to the research centres, where you will do different activities: you will be in smaller volunteer groups and will focus on research and documentation, learning a lot!”
